“How to Succeed in the Scholarship Search” (SSS)

Workshop Focus:  This workshop will show students what types of scholarships are available, who offers them and how they can organize their search and application efforts to achieve better results. Using the “How to Succeed in the Scholarship Search’ workbook, students are introduced to the important parts of the search and application process and are shown strategies to obtain the strongest letters  of recommendation, write effective essays, succeed in scholarship interviews and avoid the typical scholarship blunders.   Participants will learn how to:

 ·     Locate scholarships as early as the 9th grade year

·      Use the best scholarship resources

·       Develop a plan for the scholarship search

·       Position themself  to be a scholarship winner

·        Develop a strong personal profile

·       Avoid typical scholarship blunders

·      Give their application the winning edge

·      Develop an effective scholarship essay

·       Prepare for scholarship interviews

·      Qualify for Education Lottery Scholarships

 Who Should Attend: This six-hour workshop is ideal for high school students, and their parents, at any grade level who want to learn how to take advantage of their freshman, sophomore and junior years to develop a competitive personal profile and to learn how to start their scholarship search early. An early start on the scholarship search allows students to learn what scholarships are available to them as a senior, develop a plan to pursue those and even allows them to find scholarships open to freshman, sophomores and juniors.  Many scholarships are lost to students who do not have a game plan to win scholarships. Bring your laptop to use in hands-on activities. Wireless connection will be available.

Cost:   $199.00  Participants receive the 125-page workbook “How to Succeed in the Scholarship Search”. Parents are welcomed to join their child at no additional cost.  Lunch will be provided.     Two sesssions to choose from:

    Session I      Tuesdays September 7 and 14, 2010    6:30 - 9 pm

     Session II     Tuesdays October 5 and 12, 2010    6:30 - 9 pm



“How to Make a Successful College Visit” (HMSCV)

Workshop Focus:   Would you buy a pair of shoes without trying them on first? Would you pick a college without visiting it first?  Learn the tips for making the most out of your college visits. The college visit is an opportunity for you to obtain answers to important questions toward your college decision. This workshop will show how to look beyond the sales pitch to get the information that will really make a difference. Become a more savvy campus visitor.  Wireless connection will be available.  Bring your laptop. Participants will learn:

  • How to find the information you need to prepare for a campus visit
  • The best way to schedule a caProductsmpus visit
  • How to succeed with the on-campus interview
  • Questions to ask  admissions staff, tour guide, faculty and students
  • The essential things you must do on a campus visit
  • How to make the best of an admissions visit to your high school
  • How to benefit from a college fair and college information sessions.

Who Should Attend: This three-hour workshop is ideal for any high school student, and their parents, who will be making campus visits in the near future and wants to be come a more informed consumer when on campus. At the end of the workshop students will have a clear plan for their college campus visit.

 Cost:   $75.00   Parents are welcomed to join their child at no additional cost.

“College Application Workshop"  (CAW)

Workshop Focus:   College admission becomes more competitive each year. Early applicants have an edge over those who wait until later in the year to apply. Use this workshop to jump start your college applications and gain an admissions advantage. This workshop will help you complete your applications so that they are ready to be submitted when school starts.   Get an early start and reduce the stress of your senior year.  This is an ideal workshop for anyone who wants to finish their college applications early, including the Common Application.  Time is included to receive feedback on personal statements and essays.  Participants will also receive a timeline for admission tests, financial aid, college visits and scholarships.   Wireless connection will be available.  Bring your applications and laptop and get those applications completed early.  

 Who Should Attend: This two-day, ten hour workshop is ideal for any senior who has identified their target colleges and wants to get an early start on their college applications.  At the end of the workshop students will have completed applications ready to deliver to their school for processing. Bring your laptop, flash drive and transcript.
